St. Nicholas had never been associated with a sleigh and reindeers prior to the first publication of the poem in 1823.

Moore’s description of St. Nick helped create Santa Claus as he is thought of today.
‘Twas the Night Before Christmas’ is still read to children around the world every Christmas. It is also the most published, most memorised and most collected book of all Christmas literature.
